Most of you know Tim Kelley, who has served as song leader and speaker for the Pepperdine Lectureship, and, with a Master of Divinity degree from Pepperdine, has given over 35 years of full time ministry to Churches of Christ in Torrance, Morro Bay, Camarillo and most recently Chico, California.
Tim has Post Polio Syndrome, a result of contracting polio when he was an infant. This was never viewed as a problem by Tim. His ministries were accomplished as if he possessed no physical limitations. While most people would have spent those years in a wheel chair in a "disabled" state of mind, he refused to do so, and managed to even avoid a wheelchair.
As Post Polio Syndrome continues to challenge him, he now works part time in his ministry in Chico, California and must depend on a wheel chair. This has not discouraged Tim. He always finds a way to continue his ministry. Assisted by the Polio Foundation, he now owns a powered wheel chair which lifts him into a standing position to preach, lead singing, or to perform as a concert soloist.

Now there is a new requirement which cannot be met as easily. The Kelley’s full-size van is getting a bit long in the tooth, and is in need of replacement. With Tim nearing retirement age, a new vehicle is not an option for them, but in fact it is what they need.
Tim requires a wheelchair accessible minivan. The cost of obtaining such a vehicle with the notifications needed including special controls and a lowered floor to accommodate Tim’s large frame, is price prohibitive for any family. In order to meet Tim's requirements for the van, the cost runs from about $50,000 for a used van, to $60,000 for a new one.
Dr. Ron Tyler, recently retired from the Pepperdine Religion Division, and his wife Carolyn, have already raised over $45,000 to purchase a van for Tim as a gesture of love and appreciation for all that Tim and his wife, Roxanne, have given to Pepperdine and to our California churches.
Ron and Carolyn invite you and/or your congregation to join in our demonstration of thanks to the Kelley's by assisting in collecting the $60,000 needed to purchase a suitable wheelchair accessible mini-van.
